Regulatory control of herbal drugs in
Germany:

•In terms of legal status, herbal medicines are fully
considered as medicines.
•The review of herbal remedies was done by a
multidisciplinary commission of experts, the so-called

Commission E, with pharmacists, pharmacologists,

toxicologists, clinical pharmacologists, biostatisticians and
medical doctors from hospitals.
•This commission was responsible for the evaluation of more than
300 medicinal plants and the result is - the Commision E
monographs.
