Mechanism of action:
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) bind with their
mRNA targets by means of base pairing. In
plants, most miRNAs base pair to mRNAs
with perfect complementarity inducing
mRNA degradation. The mRNA is cleaved
endonucleolytically in the middle of the
miRNA–mRNA duplex
In mammals miRNAs base pair with their
targets imperfectly leading to translation
inhibition or enhanced mRNA degradation
