4- Wrinkles and furrows : the greater shrinkage of the softer
tissue results in the formation of wrinkles because the
shrinkage of the barks during drying occurs chiefly
   transversely.

5- Smooth : when the cork is evenly developed.
6- Rugged and scaly due to exfoliation of some of the outer

   tissues.
7- Rhytidoma : gives a scaly appearance to the surface
.
Inner Surface :it is described as :

   1. Smooth due to the presence of uniform soft, inner tissue.
   2. Striated : when showing fine or coarse parallel

longitudinal ridges, produced as a result of transverse
      shrinkage.
   3. Corrugated : when showing transverse parallel wrinkles
of folds produced as a result of longitudinal shrinkage.
N.B. The colour of both the inner and outer surfaces of the bark
may afford a useful character of diagnostic value.

Fracture of Bark : the behavior of the barks when
broken transversely.
1- Short : when the fractured surface is smooth.
2-Granular : when the surface exhibit small rounded
prominences.
