Selection work and active constituents

• Selection work on Cinchona ledgeriana with
about 5% alkaloids has furnished types
which yield bark with up to 15% alkaloids.

• Selection work on poppies capsules with
about 0.4% morphine contents has furnished
capsules with an average morphine contents
of 0.8%, thus doubling the original morphine
contents.
