• The majority are formed by condensation of an amino acid (

  lysine, arginine, ornithine, …..) with either pyruvate or α –
  ketoglutarate.
• Example, Octopine; (arginine, pyruvate).
• Others involve condensation of an amino acid
  ( lysine, arginine, ornithine, …..) with simple sugars (mannose,
  sucrose……).
• Example, Mannopine; (glutamine, mannose).
