Conversion of Pyruvate
to Acetyl-CoA

• Pyruvate is converted to Acetyl-CoA in a complex reaction
called oxidative decarboxylation catalyzed by the enzyme
Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex as follows:

Pyruvate DH complex
Pyruvate -------------------------→ Acetyl- CoA

TPP, Lipoic acid, CoA,
FAD, NAD

• The reaction requires 5 coenzymes:
(Thiamin-PP (TPP), Lipoic acid, CoA, FAD and NAD)
