• Alkynes contain triple bond between 2 linearly sp
  hybridized carbon atoms.

• IUPAC name of alkynes by changing suffix –ane to –
  yne where the triple bond and other substituents are
  given the possible lowest numbering.

• Terminal alkynes can be differentiated from internal
  alkynes by:
 Reaction with silver ammonium hydroxide and oxidation
   The most characteristic reaction of an alkyne is the
  addition to the triple bond.
