Lesson 2 Adhak

This is Adhak. It is a symbol in Punjabi language.

Whenver you see this symbol, you will speak that word

with force. Just like we use two of the same letters

in some English words, we use Adhak in Punjabi. This

symbol changes the meaning of the words.

Example 1. AK is not a correct word

A~K is eye

Example 2. hQ is not a correct word

h~Q is hand

Here is one exampel in which the Adhak changes the

meaning of the word.

Example 3. gl is neck (gul)

g~l is conversation (gull)
