P. 5
Dear Baalvardi Teachers and Parents,
The Baalvardi curriculum is tailored for students between the ages of 3.5-4 years old. This
class is their first introduction to Khalsa School and serves two main purposes.
i) A Sense of Belonging to The Gurudwara Sahib: The foremost purpose is to seed a
deep sense of love for Sikhi and cultivate a sense of belonging for the Gurdwara Sahib by
creating a consistent routine of attending Khalsa School.
ii) Connection to Sikh Roots: We hope to also instill the joy of learning Gurmukhi, thereby
fostering a life long connection to their roots.
Parent Involvement Is Essential.
Given that students are young, parents should accompany their child for the the entire class.
As class time dedicated to Punjabi and Gurmukhi learning is only 1-1.5hrs/week, repetition
throughout the week is essential for neural pathways to be engrained and learning to be
reinforced.
This can be done by parents being as involved as possible, and by doing the following:
- Use the vocabulary students learn during the week;
- Recite the songs and shabads the children learn regularly;
- Play the games; and
- Read the stories shared in class.
The foundation that is laid by establishing a routine of learning and repetition will help the
students thrive as they advance in Khalsa School.
