2.0 INTRODUCTION
The five schools that the ECCS operates are located in the communities of Castor, Provost, Stettler, Vermilion, and Wainwright, Alberta. The school jurisdiction is classified as a Rural Distant, meaning that it is more than 100km from an urban centre with a population of 35,000 or more. The diagrams below outline the geographic location of schools, as well as population trends for each town and its surrounding census district.
Although ECCS does not operate a school in Flagstaff County, its geographic position is a potential source of students for schools in Wainwright, Castor and Stettler.
Based on census results from Statistics Canada, the populations of Castor, Vermilion, and Provost have been relatively stable since 2006, with less than 5% change each reporting period. In the same 10 year period, the population of Stettler increased 9.0% and the population of Wainwright increased 13.5%.
