Page 9 - ECACS Ten-Year Capital Plan
P. 9
The school assessment checklist is meant to be a tool for the Jurisdiction to use for identifying, comparing, and prioritizing projects to put forward for approval in three-year capital plans. The chart-format is designed to provide a brief overview of the school facility’s strengths and potential shortcomings. Furthermore, it allows for a relatively straightforward comparison between schools in the district, which is useful for prioritizing funding opportunities. The list on the following pages outlines the main areas of the assessment and the various criteria that are considered in the evaluations.
To substantiate the findings outlined in the school assessment checklist, a reference system ( 3.5 )
is used to direct the reader to observations, recommendations, site photos and plans later in the document. In most cases, these notes reference specific items or types of maintenance to be addressed, rather than indicating that all items encompassed in the section are deficient. For example, a low rating for ‘interior finishes’ usually indicates that there is a deficiency with some finishes, rather than all finishes in the school.
Where appropriate, recommendations have been put forward to address or remedy facility issues outlined in the report. In most cases, potential projects fall under categories outlined by Alberta Education’s Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) or Capital Maintenance Repair (CMR) programs. More substantial undertakings may need to be addressed through Expansion or Modernization funding if deemed a priority by the Jurisdiction.
The schools included in this report are Blessed Sacrament, Christ-King, St Jerome’s and Theresetta. At the time of writing, a new building for St Thomas Aquinas School is being completed in Provost. Since the purpose of the Plan is to evaluate existing buildings being operated by the district and scope future maintenance and renewal projects, St Thomas Aquinas is not included in this 10-year plan.
