Clubs & Organizations Green Tree Garden Club
The Green Tree Garden Club had a busy summer with several public events celebrating the club’s 50th anniversary. Club members also went on a eld trip, the rst since 2019, to the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, and for the rst time had a booth at the Green Tree Farmers Market. Thanks to all the borough residents who came out to celebrate with us or stopped at our booth. The club will continue to have a booth at the Farmers Mar- ket in September and will be selling mums and perennial bulbs.
Monthly meetings resumed this summer and will continue if pandemic conditions permit. On September 9 local beekeepers will present “The A Bee Cs of Bee Keeping.” On October 14 the club will hold its annual potluck picnic to thank Public Works and other borough employees for their support in 2020 and 2021, especially all the work involved in helping the club expand the garden. For this event the club provides the entree and members bring side dishes and desserts. The November 11 meeting will feature the election of new of cers and the club’s Pay It Forward holiday activity. Garden Club members and friends will create a gingerbread village that will then be on display at Marian Manor throughout the holiday season. Guests are welcome to attend meetings. To check on the status, watch the borough’s weekly email and the club’s site at greentreeboro.com/gardenclub.php.
The club is also starting a new initiative: collecting and recycling of old cellular phones and small electronics which will be shipped to a zero-waste recycling facility. Any revenue earned will bene t the club, and the program will keep the unwanted equipment from littering land lls.
Plants will be in bloom throughout the fall in the Municipal Center Park Garden. This year the Herb Garden was expanded, and two new gardens were added – the Rose Garden, featur- ing a variety of roses, and the Presidents’ Garden, with plants honoring all the past presidents of the club. The Little Free Library of gardening books was also added. Residents and visitors are invited to check out the library offerings, take a leisurely stroll through the garden, or rest on the benches or in the gazebo and enjoy the beauty.
For additional information or questions about any of our meetings or projects, please call President Karen Maurer at 412-922-8816.
The Garden Club held a Juried Flower Show and Garden Hat Design Contest in July with judging by the Sogetsu Pittsburgh Study Group of Ikebana International.
