Pharm D- Clinical Pharmacy Program Third Level Pharmaceutical Microbiology& Antimicrobials (PM 502)
Introduction
Pharmaceutical microbiology is concerned with the study of
microorganisms associated with the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. The
primary goal of pharmaceutical microbiology is to prevent and control
microbial contamination during the manufacturing process, storage, and
distribution of pharmaceuticals. Other aspects of pharmaceutical microbiology
include the research and development of anti-infective agents. Pharmaceutical
microbiologists operate within both quality assurance and quality control. They
are engaged in laboratory testing and environmental monitoring to support
these activities.
The aim of this pharmaceutical microbiology practical course is to provide
hands-on experience with essential equipment for processing and sterilization
in experimental microbiology, conduct tests to assess the efficacy of
disinfectants, perform sterility and microbial testing of pharmaceutical
products, and evaluate the effectiveness of antibiotics.
