  Hannah Adair Bonner is the Director of Frontera Wesley, the Wesley Foundation of Tucson. After serving as pastor and young adult organizer in the Northeast, Bonner Collaborated with artists in Houston, TX as they established The Shout, a faith community focused on solidarity. In 2015, that community mobilized into action when some of the Members lost a friend, Sandra Bland, to police brutality. Partnering closely with Sandra’s
family, Sorors, the AME Church, and students at
Prairie View A&M University, Bonner spent several years splitting her time between Houston and Waller County. In 2016, Bonner was inducted as an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., given the Prathia Hall Social Justice Award by WomenPreach, Inc., and recognized as one of the “16 Faith Leaders to Watch in 2016” by the Center for American Progress. Bonner has been featured in a series of teaching videos on solidarity from RethinkChurch, and in the HBO documentary “Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland.” Hannah writes at HannahAdairBonner.com and has published a Bible study curriculum with Abingdon Press entitled The Shout: Finding the Prophetic Voice in Unexpected Places.
Professor Emeritus Arlene Avakian is a founder and former Chair of Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her areas of interest include social constructions of identities through an intersectional lens, which she has explored through autobiography and memory studies, as well as whiteness and food studies. Avakian’s publications include Lion Woman’s Legacy: An Armenian American Memoir (1992), Through the Kitchen Window: Women Explore the Intimate Meaning of Food and Cooking (1997); From Betty Crocker to Feminist Food Studies: Critical
Perspectives on Women and Food (2005) and African American Women and the Vote 1837-1965 (1997). Avakian has been involved in social justice activism for many years around the issues of gender, race, class, and sexuality.
