Health
If your guinea pig isn’t eating well, has a swollen tummy or diarrhoea, then it
might be sick. If you think your guinea pig is sick, then you need to take it to
the vet. You should check your guinea pig every day and see if you notice any
changes in their health.
Skin and fur checks
Look for any areas of dry, flaky skin or any sores. Sores can be from bites or
infections. Sometimes guinea pigs can get cuts from walking around on the
floor. If the cut or sore is small, then clean it with salt water and cotton wool
twice a day. If the sore is big, then show it to your vet.
Ringworm is a skin infection that is quite common. It can be very itchy, and it
can cause hair loss. Your vet can give you medicine to treat the infection.
Bumblefoot is another common problem for guinea pigs. It is a skin infection
found around your guinea pig’s feet. Check your guinea pigs’ feet for swelling
and rashes. Your vet can also give you medicine to treat bumblefoot.
