Causes of Thrombocytopenia
Autoimmune condition or Infections - Chronic
liver disease - Alcohol abuse - Nutrient
deficiencies (folate, vitamin B12, copper) or it
may be associated to many diseases.
Management includes identifying the underlying cause
and treating it
Treatment may include Glucocorticoids and intravenous
immune globulins; these agents inhibit autoantibody
production and platelet degradation. Also Rituximab,
immunosuppressive drugs, these agents are thrombopoietin
receptor agonists, which stimulate platelet production.
