Giles was born in Media, PA, but grew up on the move around Europe and the Middle East. Her work explores the relationship between light and color while focusing on themes of luminosity, translucency, and reflection. Because she is on the autistic spectrum and finds it difficult to communicate with others, she focuses more intensely on painting. For her, painting is a way to form a connection with the rest of the world. because painting is a way of sharing. She has a strong response to light, and when she stares transfixed at bright lights, shivers run through her body and she feels as if she were melting. Gile’s goal is to recreate this experience in her paintings so that she can share with others the spellbinding beauty of light. She is eighteen years old and is a second-year student at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
