“My paintings are based on my interactions with nature, experiences of everyday life and the
visual landscape of my Indian birthplace.
As a child, my mother’s exquisite garden and the colorful costumes of my sister’s classical Indian dance surrounded me. I was entranced by the fluid movement of my sister’s costumes as
she moved to the rhythmic music. I feel those early influences have always been present in
my work. In addition to my abstract imagery, fictional creatures often emerge in my work. They are created organically within the painting or drawing, based on my observation of the sounds and forms of nature coupled with imagination. The images also reflect my interest in the passage of time through repetitive mark- making. I work with a variety of mediums and scales, including acrylic paint on canvas or paper, acrylic paint makers, and mylar. As an artist, I am in a constant state of evolution and exploration of new ways of expressing organic forms and patterns. My goal is to share the joy I feel in creating these images.”
