I’m not a talker. Being born severely hearing impaired, I’m not much of a listener either. I’m mostly an observer. My work is about observing the world around me and then interpreting what I see, what is tangible, what I perceive. While I’m out in nature, I observe the stillness of the woods—I do not hear the birds but I can feel the soaring strength and solidity of the trees in unity surrounding me. In my home life the regular chattering of children and dogs barking can be rebarba- tive with an amplified hearing aid. But the physical presence of my children, the quietness of love generated by them inspires my work to no end. The bits and pieces of a life given, the challenges that we all face on a daily basis, positive or negative, balanced or unbalanced, ultimately give rise to my work.”

“My work is about how I interpret what is going on around me,
whether I see it, sense it, or ‘hear’ it.
