Basic Concepts The Dice Rule of Seven

Each face on a die has 1 to 6 pips, and the numbers
of pips on opposite faces always add up to 7. This is called
the Rule of Seven.
According to the Rule of Seven, the

Example Two dice are stacked such that the faces with the same
number of pips touch each other. What is the number of
pips on the base of the lower die?

Class Notes

Since there are two pips on the top of die , according to the

“Rule of Seven, ” the base should have pips.

Since the number of pips on the faces that touch each

other are equal, the top of die has pips.

Therefore, the base has pips.
