F ortune-tellers have two main ways of predicting
the future. Some might give people a “hot
reading.” A hot reading is when the fortune-teller
already knows some things about you. This way, it is
easy to learn about other things and pretend to know
your future. Other fortune-tellers give “cold
readings.” Some fortune-tellers even try to read
your palm to tell the future. In a cold reading, the fortune-teller knows
nothing about you. He makes guesses about your personality or your life.
He carefully watches your reactions and he finds out a few facts about you.
Then, he makes more detailed guesses. It’s like a game of Twenty Questions!
Unfortunately, both of these ways are clever tricks to fool you.

• like Like can be preposition. It is used to say that things are similar.
He repeats after me like a parrot.
It’s like a dream to meet him again.
