A high-tech robot landed on Mars
on August 6, 2012. NASA made
the robot and named it “Curiosity”.
Curiosity was sent into space on
November 26, 2011. After landing in a
crater, Curiosity sent a picture back to
Earth. People in NASA cheered after
looking at the picture.
The machine rover is as big as a car. It has computers with huge amounts of
memory, communication systems and many kinds of cameras. It was hard
for Curiosity to land safely on Mars because it was very heavy. NASA
scientists planned many steps to make the landing successful. They used a
huge parachute to slow down the landing.
The mission of Curiosity is to search for important things like oxygen. It
might find traces of life on the Red Planet. On September 27, 2012, NASA
scientists announced that Curiosity found evidence of water that had bean
flowing in the past. * rover: a space exploration vehicle

• Participle clauses after conjunctions : conjunction + ~ing, subject + verb
- ~ing clauses can be used after many conjunction. They are common with
after, before, since, when, while.
