W ho are your favorite actors and
actresses? Do you dream of
becoming famous and rich? Movie stars
seem to lead a glamorous life of
parties, movies, and ceremonies. If you
want to become a successful and
famous movie star, you need to go to
Hollywood. Of course, you can be a
famous actor in your town,
neighborhood, or country. But if you
want to become the next Tom Cruise or Angelina Jolie, you need to be in
Hollywood.
Hollywood is in Los Angeles. It has a long history with the movies. Many
famous people came to Hollywood to start their careers. The industry
quickly grew, and so did the city. Many good movies came from Hollywood,
and soon it became the movie capital of the world.
It is not easy to become an actor in Hollywood. (a) Thousands and
thousands of people go to Hollywood with the hope of becoming famous
and rich. (b) Some succeed, and some don’t. (c) Life is hard for unsuccessful
actors. They have to find other jobs to get enough money. (d)
English Usage
• subject + verb (want, expect, hope, need, agree) + object (to infinitive)
He hopes to see you again.
• in order to [= so as to] : We use an infinitive to talk about a person’s purpose.
Girls stood up in order to see actors better. (more formal)
