Unit 2 READING 2

T here have been many great female writers
throughout history. Two of the greatest are

19th-century writers Jane Austen and Emily

Dickinson. These two women were quite different

in some ways. Austen came from a large family and

had many friends. She also visited a lot of places.

On the other hand, Dickinson didn’t meet with

many people. As a result, she was rather lonely.

Despite these differences, they shared the same fate . Both writers

produced fine literary works, but they weren’t very successful. The main

reason was because they were women. Austen’s name was not used on her

books because she was a woman. Dickinson’s works weren’t even published

until after her death! Even though they weren’t successful in their time, all

writers today !
