Comparing 3-digit Numbers

When comparing 3-digit numbers:
The number with the greater number in the hundreds place is the greater number.

If the numbers in the hundreds place are the same, the number with the greater
number in the tens place is the greater number. 450 420
If the numbers in the hundreds and tens place are the same, the number with the
greater number in the ones place is the greater number. 125 124

Expressions that Show Number Comparisons

Numbers are compared using expressions with symbols.

32 3 is greater than 2.
15 25 15 is less than 25.
4 8 12 8 is greater than 4 and less than 12.

If there is more than one expression to show a number comparison, find the

numbers that satisfy all the expressions.

of the unknown digits must be looked at.

place than 21 . So, 23 is the second greatest number.
