Unit 1 Peer Pressure
Listening Comprehension
I will never be cool! During lunch today, I was hanging out in the school cafeteria
with some of my friends. Then, out of nowhere, one of the coolest kids in school came
up and started talking like them. He said that he wanted to skip the rest of his classes
and asked us to join him. Everyone but me said yes!
I can only imagine what they think of me, but I didn‟t want to get in trouble either.
They left without me, and some of them made fun of me, too. Have I lost all my
friends?
What you‟ve experienced is called “peer pressure.” This is when you feel like you
have to do or believe something just because your friends do it. Wanting to fit in,
many people will do things that are unwise and harmful. However, you did the right
thing. If your friends keep doing things like this, then you‟d better find some new
friends.
