Measurable Masses Using Only One Side of the Balance
You can place weights of 1 g, 2 g, 4 g, and 8 g on only one side
of a balance to measure all masses from 1 g to 15 g.
When the following number of weights are used, masses that can
be measured are:
One weight is used: 1 g, 2 g, 4 g, 8 g
Two weights are used: 3 g (1 2), 5 g (1 4), 6 g (2 4),
9 g (1 8), 10 g (2 8), 12 g (4 8)
Three weights are used: 7 g (1 2 4), 11 g (1 2 8),
13 g (1 4 8), 14 g (2 4 8)
Four weights are used: 15 g (1 2 4 8)
