        Lawyers or conveyancing companies are an added but necessary expense when buying
        a home. Choose someone who knows your area — they will be familiar with any location
        peculiarities and hopefully have a good relationship with local real estate agents.


        Ask your family and friends to recommend a conveyancer or solicitor to scrutinise your
        contract. A conveyancer specialises in buying property, while a solicitor is better qualified
        — but typically more expensive — to handle legal advice and disputes. Either way, you’re
        likely to pay upwards of $1000, so shop around.

        A good conveyancer/solicitor will be able to guide you through the whole home buying
        process and can manage any contract negotiations, building and pest inspections and
        strata reports.
