Gram Negative Cell Walls
- More complex than that of Gram positive bacteria
- The Gram-negative cell wall appears multilayered. It consists of:
1- A thin, inner wall composed of peptidoglycan
- The peptidoglycan portion of the Gram-negative cell wall is generally 2-3 nm
thick and contains just 2-3 layers of peptidoglycan.
- Chemically, only 10 to 20% of the Gram-negative cell wall is peptidoglycan.
