Hurricane Laura
Hurricane Laura made landfall in Southwest Louisiana as a Category 4 on record with destructive winds and storm surge. Surge flooding up to 19 feet was documented in Cameron Parish, Louisiana including Lake Charles. The hurricane hit the gulf coast with wind gust of 100 to 135 mph reported in Southwest, Louisiana spawning tornadoes into Arkansas and Mississippi.
The year 2020 has been busy in the way of weather in the Atlantic Ocean basin. NBCA Inc. President, Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert Jr. continues to help the community though he also suffered storm damage at his home and the church he pastor. The wind damage done to St. Greater Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church, unfortunately exposed material that has hindered reopening the church. Yet Greater Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church still finds ways to assist those in need of essential supplies such as water, personal toiletries and food.
Brothers from the New Era Progressive Missionary Baptist State Convention of Alabama Inc. traveled to Lake Charles, Louisiana in hope to help with the clean up. President Tolbert assigned committee gave us a list of addresses where persons requested assistance from the church. The destruction of hurricane Laura was wide spread with down trees, power outage, damages to homes and businesses.
History has proven that the people of Louisiana are resilient, strong and unwavering in their faith to overcome obstacles. Hurricane Laura and Storm Delta have come and gone. Now it is time for the saints of God (brothers) to rise to the occasion by helping in whatever capacity needed.
It seems as though these United States of America is being weighed in the balance. There are reasons to be stressed on every hand, such as: fire in the western states, record storms making landfall, closing of jobs, unemployment at record high, coronavirus pandemic, and this is a Presidential election year. The list goes on, but God is able to make all things work together for the good for those who are called according to His purpose.
