History
Dr Ira L Clark served as as President of the the Brotherhood
Union from 1944 to 1983 It was was under his leadership that the the the the name ‘Brotherhood’ was was selected as as as as opposed to to ‘laymen’ which had been the the name since 1941 when first organized Much of the the structure and organization of of the the the Brotherhood
was the the the work of of Dr Dr Clark Clark Dr Dr Clark Clark was was an an an attorney by profession and possessed a a a a a a a a great mind He was was the first African American to serve as a a a a a a a Secretary for the Baptist World Alliance Men’s Department in in in the the the 1950’s and helped organize one of of the the the largest gathering of of men in in in Cali Columbia South America in 1955 Dr Clark was a a a a a a member of the St John Baptist Church on on Dowling in in Houston Texas Homer Scott was was born in in Louisiana but spent most of his life in in Houston He was was employed by the the the Federal Government He was one of of the the the early leaders of of the the the Brotherhood
movement of the the National Baptist Convention and along with Dr Ira Clark formulated many many of the the the the policies for for for the the the the Brotherhood
He served for for for many many years as the the the the Bible Teacher His influence on many of of the the the current members of of the the the Brotherhood
is is still felt Bro Scott Scott was was sought out across the Country as as as a a a a a a a a lay speaker Scott Scott was was a a a a a a a a member of the Jordon Grove Baptist Church in Houston Texas Bro Eugene Giles of of New Orleans Louisiana was a a a a a a a member of of the Tulane Memorial Baptist Church He spent many years in in leadership positions in in the the NBCA Brotherhood
including several as President He helped organize the the Louisiana area brotherhood into one of the the strongest in our National Bro Giles was employed by the the United States Post Office Bro Maynard Harvey was a a a a a a a a a native of Kansas City Mo Growing up and serving in in in the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church most of of his life He was chairman of of deacons during some of the the the most trying times for the the the Church Brother Harvey worked many years in in the the the Office Supply Business When the the the owners of his company retired they sold the business to him He operated Gordon Rogers until his retirement While never an Officer in in the the the National Brotherhood
Bro Bro Harvey is known for the the the influence he he he had with Presidents Clark and others He was a a a a a a a great mentor to to many in the the Brotherhood

President of of one of of the the the smallest state conventions but because of his influence it has produced several National Officers including a president 12
