is no question that our FDCC friends made our solo holiday celebrations way more festive and joyful.
Holiday Celebrations Under Covid:
A Pleasant Surprise
M y wife, Ann, and I will have been married 40 years in 2021. In all those years, we have never celebrated a Christmas without our daughters. In 2020, we realized that a “Christmas celebration” could be challenging, but in late summer, we optimistically rented a house and booked direct flights to San Francisco for the month of December so that we could be with our daughters, their husbands, and
their children.
Unfortunately, Thanksgiving brought a massive surge in Covid-19 infections, and our world shut down. The Friday after we celebrated Thanksgiving as a twosome, we received notification from the airline that our direct flights to San Francisco had been cancelled, and that we were re-routed on commuter planes through major airports. It was then that we and our daughters made the painful decision to cancel our Christmas plans and we would stay home.
What transpired next is the reason I am writing this chapter. After a few moments of angst and a few tears, Ann and I realized that Christmas could actually be a joyful
