close down in two short weeks. The lock-down in California would be tight.
Our immediate future uncertain, we could only try to learn as much as possible to be safe and smart. How would the pandemic affect our business? How long would our offices be closed? What could we do to protect our elderly fathers, both in their mid-80’s, and our children even though they were technically “adults” (but still on the family cell phone and medical plans)?
We would soon learn that through adversity, the Roberts have no reason to complain about anything, and much to be thankful for.
During the first two-week “flatten the curve” period, we hunkered down in our home in Carmel Valley, with Debbie’s father, Eddie Dove, a former San Francisco 49er. What was supposed to be a few weeks, turned to months, but we were safe and isolated. More concerning was my own 85-year old father, Robert, who lived alone in my hometown of Cambridge, Ohio. He had recently sold his farm and moved to town, but needed to be outside doing something.
ASHLEY AND MICHAEL—WEDDING DELAYED
Ashley and Michael should by now be married, with a September 16, 2020 wedding planned at Clint Eastwood’s property at Tehama in Carmel Valley. When Michael asked me for Ashley’s hand in marriage over Thanksgiving in 2018, his first words were: “I can’t wait to be married to
your daughter...” But wait he would.
Trying to be conservative, the wedding was rescheduled with Tehama for June 19, 2021, but we learned in mid-February 2021 that the wedding would need to be postponed again if it was going to be held there. The wedding will happen on June 19th, but in our backyard instead.
Michael took a new job in late- January, 2020, having worked several years in medical device sales. His new company was the first to sell robots for use in hospital surgery rooms. The robots kill all viruses and bacteria by use of UV light in around five minutes. It is the only company whose devices
