 It seems that when the breadth of knowledge needed to know when, how, and whether to communicate is high, reliance on technology to facilitate that communication becomes significantly more difficult.
A Job Change In The Time Of
T he Fall of 2019 was a very exciting time. My wife and I welcomed our first child into the world, I had just been named partner at my Arizona law firm (which had just moved into a new office with modern, collaborative work space), and the oppressive Phoenix heat had finally receded. Little did I imagine that in just a few short months, the excitement of raising a daughter and meeting my new responsibilities as a young partner would be eclipsed by a sense of existential, pandemic-driven dread.
With that sense of dread came a renewed sense of focus on my family. After a few months of juggling my new duties in the time of COVID, I for the first time considered leaving the firm that had been my professional home for nearly a decade. This chapter is about my experience transitioning from firm life to corporate life in the midst of the catastrophe that was 2020.
In retrospect, making the move “in-house” seems almost counterintuitive. Most people at that time were hunkering down and avoiding major life interruptions, not
