Y ou know that opening scene in Lion King where Rafiki is standing on Pride Rock and presents Simba to the animal kingdom and they roar their approval - thanks to the Covid restrictions on who can enter into the hospital, we got to play
that out in real life on September 10, 2020.
Pride Rock was the second floor of the Shawnee Mission Hospital Maternity Wing where Courtney was delivering her first child - our first grandchild. Susan and I gathered with others outside below her window waiting to cheer the newest addition. It was cold, it was raining and we did not care.
Then it happened.
Brandon (Dad) playing the role of Rafiki came to the window raising the new Simba for all to see. This is the part where the entire animal kingdom roars their approval. The problem with our real world re-creation of this scene was that between the rain and the tint on the windows we could not see if he was holding a boy or girl. To be
