FDCC Meetings - Looking Back
in a paella cookoff. Lynne Ingram has a second career as a Food Network show host as she kept
the 40 attendees in the know of all the secrets of our FDCC Chefs. It was a close battle, but in the end Dan Kohane was crowned the winner. Sean had only a brief bit
of respite after dueling it out in
the kitchen before he opened up the dance floor that night with a choreographed routine to Stayin’ Alive at the FDCC’s first Disco. John Travolta had nothing on Sean that night and I’d personally like to thank Sean for not dropping me on my head during the performance. The costumes were beyond compare as people brought the 70’s back full force, and the dance floor was packed until we wore out the DJ.
Our final night, we enjoyed some of Washington’s most notable foods and participated in miniature versions of Washington activities. We shot hoops like a Supersonic
(I was completely schooled by a 6 year old daughter of one of our members), embraced our inner Mariners in virtual baseball, revisited carnival games like
the 1960’s world fair, tried out alternative careers as a florist creating bouquets, or tossed salmon to each other as fish mongers at Pike Place Market.
I would personally like to thank all of you who attended. The FDCC members and families truly brought their A-games to this meeting. For all the planning and events, the magic that makes a meeting something special comes
from our members. Some of my favorite parts of this meeting were those that required no planning
at all – watching people’s faces
light up when they saw old friends for the first time, new members’ hesitation melt away as they were welcomed, and the cheers and laughter as people entered the disco or bravely entertained at the makeshift karaoke lounge. It is
this camaraderie that drew me in
as a new member years ago, and keeps me coming back. I’m looking forward to experiencing it again in Nashville for our Winter Meeting, in just a few months.
