 LET'S CELEBRATE OUR NEW MEMBERS
venture capital financings and public company representation.
Julie: On November 6th, I had my first baby, so I had to spend this winter finishing up work from
the Fall semester. I just recently completed everything, and I am taking the rest of the semester off to care for my baby as she is so young, and day care is super expensive, particularly for very young babies.
I plan to take one class or get an internship this summer, and this fall I plan to resume full-time classes.
I will be graduating in 2023, but
my graduation may be pushed to December now because of the time I am taking this semester. After graduation, I hope to work in the civil rights field, hopefully for a nonprofit or small firm.
Q. If you could say anything to others who will be applying for the scholarship in the future, what would it be?
Joanna: To those who value diversity and inclusion in the legal field and are considering applying to the Barb Currie Diversity Scholarship, I highly encourage that you apply.
Julie: Submit the application, even if you're not sure you will get the scholarship. I wasn't super confident about my application, but I am so grateful I did. Every interaction I had with the FDCC left me feeling welcomed and encouraged. The people in this organization want to support law students for real. It's not just a
program for them; it's a genuine opportunity for them to give back and meet the next generation of lawyers.
In addition to Joanna and Julie, you might also be interested in learning of the current whereabouts of some of the other recipients of the Foundation’s Barb Currie Diversity Scholarship:
• Beau Bryan was the 2020 recipient and will be graduating this year from the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, WA;
• Sandy Xiong received the scholarship in 2019. She is now a Law Clerk for the Tenth Judicial Circuit in Anoka County, MN; and
