  Stringing Questions
Effective questioners not only ask effective questions, they ask a string of effective questions where each leads into the next and builds to a crescendo. This exercise addresses how to string questions together.
EXPLANATION
Participants learn to string together a series of questions to create a rhythm with the witness.
EXERCISE
Identify a witness you cross-examined in deposition and describe the case and the role
of the witness in the case to the participants. Provide examples of stringing questions together and discuss different ways of doing so. Have the participants question you (as you role play the witness) by stringing one question after another.
LESSONS LEARNED
This exercise teaches how to tell a story through your questions, where each builds from thelastandleadsintothenext. You’recreatingtension,resolvingitinyourfavorandthen moving onto the next point.
