Meet the IDS Team
Dan Harper
IDS Associate Director
Dan has been employed with UNO for 19 years. In addition to his duties
with IDS he also serves as the Coordinator for the National Student Exchange
Program at UNO. Dan graduated from Southwest Missouri State (now Mis-
souri State) University in Springfield, Missouri with a M.S. in Counseling
in 1990. He is also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). He was a late
higher education bloomer as he did not enroll in college until he was 34. Af-
ter holding several jobs between the ages of 14 and 34 he decided to give col-
lege a try as a means to move forward in a career. What most people would
not know is that one of those jobs was as a candy-maker at Silver Dollar City,
a theme park near Branson, Missouri. After being burned one too many
times by hot fudge, he decided there was another way to make a living!
Jennifer Archibald
Academic Counselor
Jennifer moved to the Crescent City from Memphis in 2013 to attend graduate
school at UNO. Though she was accepted into the Hospitality and Tourism Man-
agement program, the graduate assistantship that she accepted in Interdisciplinary
Studies (IDS) changed everything. She quickly realized that she loved being part of
a college campus and working for an academic department that prided itself on its
dedication to students. Upon completion of her master’s degree, she was honored
to be offered a full-time IDS academic counselor position. Her love of New Orle-
ans, coupled with her passion for the University of New Orleans, makes it difficult
for her to imagine living and working anywhere else. She is also an avid sports
fan, with a sincere passion for the Memphis Tigers and Chicago Cubs. There’s just
something about the color blue…Memphis, Chicago, and UNO!
Edie Talley
Graduate Assistant
Edie is a lifelong resident of Louisiana, a graduate of Salmen High School,
and a Spring 2014 IDS graduate. She is currently in her second year of the MFA
program at UNO; her concentration is creative nonfiction writing. She joined
the IDS team in January 2015 and immediately began publishing the monthly
IDS newsletter. She also works one-on-one with IDS students to help them
write their capstone papers. As a StrengthsQuest peer eductor, she designed the
new StrengthsQuest component to IDS 1001 and will be leading the discussion
board for that portion of the course. She is the past editor of Driftwood and El-
lipsis, and is currently a genre editor for UNO’s Bayou Magazine. Edie is an avid
reader who likes to curl up with a book at the end of a long day. Her favorite
author is Stephen King. She loves scary stories!
