                        Standards of Practice

               Contracts
                PPIAC has a contract template available to members
                 What is recommended to be included:
                   Date of contract;
                   Parties to the contract;
                   Description of services;
                   Fees for services;
                   How and when contract terminates or may be terminated;
                   Statement the client is entitled to both a written and oral report; and
                   Number of days the client must be provided the report.
                 A copy must be provided to the client.
                 One contract may cover multiple services to one client.
                                 It is strongly recommended developing these
                                  as your agency Standards of Practice as
                                   professional and client protections.

                        Standards of Practice

               Reports
                The contents and formats of reports are not defined in the Standards of
                Practice.
                 Include relevant information from the contract – dates,
                  parties, assignment;
                 Include activities, findings, and supporting documents;
                 Include any details specific to the assignment and type of
                  case.
                 Reports can only state facts – not opinions (PIs are fact
                  finders and fact witnesses – not experts; and
                Reports will vary from agency to agency, and assignment to assignment –
                adapt, use templates, and ask for examples.
                                 It is strongly recommended developing these
                                  as your agency Standards of Practice as
                                   professional and client protections.

                        Standards of Practice

               Reports
                 Reports are your work-product which clients see, are
                  disclosed to opposing parties, may be used in depositions,
                  hearings, and trials, and if it is not in your report – it did not
                  happen.
                 Be prepared to answers questions as if you were to testify,
                  and particularly under cross-examination:
                   Is it clear to other parties reading the report?
                   Are there any errors or consistencies?
                Reports will be covered in more detail in a later presentation

                                 It is strongly recommended developing these
                                  as your agency Standards of Practice as
                                   professional and client protections.
