Who or what inspired your passion for fishing? I was ex- posed to fishing as a very young child. My earliest memories date back to summer vacations at Lake Mascuppic in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. I can clearly re- call my father waking my broth- ers and me up before dawn and being on the water as the sun was breaking the horizon and peek- ing over the trees on the opposite shore. My father would come up on the weekends after working late night shifts as a Boston Po- lice Officer, and take us fishing at the crack of dawn. He would take us out in the dory row boat we had back then, I will never forget that boat, it had a square tunnel built into the middle that was stood upright and you could see down into the water as you moved along, almost like a peri- scope in reverse. It was a very

unique boat, I have not seen once since. An extremely heavy boat, hand crafted from wood and fin- ished with a fiber glass veneer, it was not an easy task to row it for any distance, especially in a stiff wind and chop. The point is, I remember these trips as if they were this morning, that’s how impactful they were for me. Spending quality time with my father and my brothers, experi- encing the outdoors and learn- ing how to fish. I was “hooked” on fishing and the out of doors from the beginning, I loved ev- erything about it, the water, the sunny summer mornings, the smell of coffee percolating and bacon sizzling when we would return from our trips. The stories we could tell of fish caught and the ones that got away (which every fisherman knows, were the biggest ones).
Fishing is in my DNA, it re- mains my foremost passion and it
was my father whom passed it on to me. He made it exciting, fun, and always a learning experience. He would tell stories of fish and fisherman from the time he was a small child on the very same lake. I still get that child like feeling of anticipation whenever I go fish- ing, to this day. What I wouldn’t give to go back to those morn- ings with my dad and brothers on the lake enjoying each others company. The quality time spent with my dad were magical times for me and are seared into my memory as clear to me fifty years on as it was in those mornings of my youth on Lake Masscupic. Treasured memories, priceless summer vacation mornings spent with my brothers and my dad. Fishing was the medium, quality time and shared memories spent with family was the result.
