mas’ and this is going to be different but we are going to make the most of it,” said San- ta’s Village committee member Barbara Greenwood.
The Tapply-Thompson Community Center will be closed for the event this year and they are taking the celebra- tion outdoors.
Families will be invited to cruise along N. Main St. in Bristol until they come to the utility shed, located just before the back entrance to Newfound Memorial Middle School. There they will see Santa wish- ing them a Merry Christmas as one of his elves hands out this year’s commemorative or- naments. Elves will also collect letters to Santa that night and drop them in his special mail- box. As families drive along the street they will be asked to re- main in their vehicles and keep moving slowly so traffic does not back up into the Pleasant St. intersection.
Greenwood said that while the committee is keeping things simple and safe this year, she hopes residents will join in with lights and decorations along N. Main St. and other parts of town to provide an even more festive experience for all.
TTCC’s Executive Director Leslie Dion said there had been plans in the works to make this 75th anniversary year special, but due to the virus they felt it best to put them aside for now.
All is not lost though.
“We’re looking forward to having a ‘75-Plus’ celebration in the future,” said Dion.
The 2020 Santa’s Village drive-through will take place on Dec. 11-12, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. both nights.
Other plans for holi- day-themed fun in the days leading up to Santa’s visit are underway and everyone is asked to watch the Bristol Commu- nity Events Facebook page for more information as it becomes available.
Newfound Lake Life December 2020 Bristol Historical Society
The Bristol Historical Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of materials from Bristol’s past. The Society museum is located in the former Fire House on the corner of High Street and South Main Street. This building is owned by the Town of Bristol and the Society leases the upper level. The museum is open during the warmer months or by appointment. Due to covid restrictions there have been no public meetings or programs this year. We are hopeful that programming can resume
in 2021.
In our collection are a few Christmas greeting cards from Homer Hutchinson. Homer was a local business man. He evidently had personal greeting cards printed each year using his own poems. I found this one to be especially appealing and wanted to share it with you. His sentiment still rings true in our little town. Merry Christmas.
