Exercise 2
Envision Dining Excellence
Use each of the following phases of reflection.
1. Alone – 5 minutes:
Go for a walk outdoors, sit separately from others without even making eye contact or find a private space (no phones, talking or other communication). Review the “Journal Our Thoughts: Envisioning Dining Excellence” worksheet. Think about the journal elements in relation to your favorite dining experience, a dining experience in your facility and the goals of culture change.
2. Journal – 5 minutes:
Jot down a description of the essential elements of your favorite dining experience. How do they relate to the dining experience in your facility and to the goals of culture change? Make notes to yourself so that you can refer to these insights when you’re back with your team.
3. Into the circle – 10 minutes:
Meet in a learning circle. Going around the circle, each shares his/her favorite dining experience and thoughts about dining in your facility. You may build on what others have said before you. What you plan to say when the circle begins, may not be what you end up saying. Look for the similarities among your concerns, ideas and thoughts. Can you build further on your own awareness? Share when your time comes.
4. Journal your thoughts again.
At some point in the next few days, refer to your notes and add additional thoughts.
