SEEK DINING EXCELLENCE
Increase Quality of Life in Individual Measures
SURVEYS – New tools to measure quality of life are in the final development stages. Dr. Rosalie Kane, University of Minnesota, has studied the measurement of quality of life with the goal of introducing a measurement tool into the RAI process. Food and dining will be important components of the new instrument and questions and probes will reach beyond the scope of the current survey tool.
CELEBRATIONS – The opportunity to honor a resident on their birthday; the ability to choose your own birthday meal or the flavor of your birthday cake; the celebration of the birth of a great-grandchild; the marriage or graduation of a grandchild – with the guest of honor as the host or hostess; the spontaneity of the last picnic of the year on the last nice day of the year; the more quiet celebration of sharing a cup of coffee with a friend; savoring the memory of eating cookie dough before the cookies are baked; hosting the monthly meeting for the ladies from church circle or the fellows from the VFW and serve the traditional specialty...the opportunities to celebrate the big events, the daily routines or just life itself are all around us. Living and working in community offers the opportunity to celebrate the gift of each day in a special way. Relationship-based caregiving offers the opportunity to know each other well enough to know what to celebrate.
NOURISHING BODY AND SOUL – Living and working together in community and knowing each other’s daily pleasures – it’s all about fellowship. Derived from the Greek word “phileo” meaning love for a good cause, we nurture fellowship when we celebrate the important moments of our lives. When dining is the heart of our home, the celebrations are made even more special with food.
