Millie lives in a world of efficiency, efficient for staff and cost effective for the facility, but impersonal to Millie’s individual choice. In a progressive facility, staff are moving toward companionship and relationships, enjoying their work more, and involving elders more in the life of the home.
Millie’s care team works hard to provide Millie individual opportunities, even if they challenge the organizational priorities of efficiency. The more successful they are, the better Millie’s quality of life will be.
Millie is at the center of this model. Whether it is called resident-centered, person- centered, or neighborhoods, her care team works daily
to focus on individualized care, growing from Millie’s individual needs and preferences.
Millie directs the care she receives, usually from cross-trained or even universal workers who report to their self-directed team with full accountability for positive outcomes in Millie’s satisfaction and quality of life.
