Assuring regulatory compliance and assuring the success of any new program requires ongoing observations of performance in comparison to procedure and outcomes
in relation to standards. Train all staff to be observers with new eyes. Assess each meal with a comprehensive look at the procedures and the outcomes. Develop a
tool that works for you. In addition to the standard rounds, audit tools for regulatory compliance. Consider enhancing the audit with some non traditional quality of life indicators. But watch every meal, every day, to ensure ongoing success.
Use the Dining Hostess Observation Form following, or develop your own, with a focus on regulatory compliance. Monitor your dining service repeatedly and regularly. Use the “Envision Dining Excellence” exercise on page 10 to look at your residents’ dining experience with new eyes–“culture change eyes”–to always seek opportunities to improve the dining experience.
