If you have not yet formed a Transformational Leadership Team, or a Steering Team, now is the time to consider it. This team should be made up of formal and informal leaders. An early challenge is to to explore values. Together, the team studies the organization’s stated values. Team members’ values are also discovered, merged, expanded upon, clarified and, over time, transformed into a team values statement. A values statement, crafted by the team, will guide and ground all transformation work ensuring that the vision is that of the whole team, not just select members.
If your organization does not have a values statement suggest that an organization-wide team be formed to draft a values statement for the organization. (Be sure all stakeholders including residents are involved). Decide what is important and what will guide daily life and practices in your organization. Ask for suggestions of values and list them on a flip chart as you go or ask individuals to write down their own ideas for values and then compile them in a list posted for the group to examine and discuss. The values could include any or all of the following concepts:
Creating Home Person-Centered Resident-Directed
Leadership From All
Critical Thinking
High Involvement
Learning and Teaching Centered Community
Interpersonal Sensitivity and Communication Healthy Means of Conflict Facilitation
