Hosting
Hosting others in our home is a very normal yet special tradition unavailable to residents in most long-term care institutions. Shields and Norton have sought to restore it for elders by making it one of their Household Model design principles: “Home is where we host
our visitors.” What a wonderful gift for those fortunate enough to live in the Household Model!
Hosting Other Households - What to Host?
Anything, of course. Use any or no reason
to host. Host formal parties or casual get- togethers. Invite staff and residents to meet their new neighbor. Host baby showers for staff. Host birthday parties and ask everyone to come and wish the birthday guy or gal well. Host a party for the staff’s children. Have
an art show or a trivia tournament. Have a pajama party. Bake cookies and invite anyone to come have one. Have a taste testing party. Invite a friend over for a beer. Be creative. Think together as staff and residents of ways to invite others into your home.
