Healthy Worrying and Wondering
Vibrancy is not a static quality – to maintain it, we must continue to question , wonder and even worry. Why are we doing the things we do in the household? Is it because it is what we have always done? It is what staff wants? Or what staff think the residents want? Or what the residents really want? And how can we make what might seem impossible, possible together?
Cultivating a healthy “worry and wonder” attitude can help us from becoming stagnant, riding on our laurels or falling into a rut...from becoming content, say, with a reputation that may not completely define us, such as, “This household loves intellectual activities.” This may not include everyone in the household. And, maybe householders love intellectual games but become bored if that’s all they do. We need to worry and wonder if we are being true to the ever-changing need and desires of the householders.
