Components of the Community Meeting (cont’d)
• Policy review. Here, too, something incredible was done. The administrator at the time, Beth Irtz, put up an overhead with large print that stated, “Clear Creek’s policy on preventing pressure sores.”
I thought, “How boring, what is she doing now?” Much to my surprise it was one of the best policy reviews, and perhaps the only one for staff and residents, I’d ever seen.
The administrator said to residents, “You probably know them as bed sores. We call them pressure sores and we don’t want you to get any. This is why we ask you to lay down or get up, to reposition yourselves in your chairs and beds, why we encourage you to drink or eat more.”
It was simply a reminder in layman’s terms why they do what they do at Clear Creek. Obviously a different policy could be reviewed at each meeting.
• Open forum for questions, comments and announcements.
• A resident closed the meeting by reading a devotion.
